Day 31
Day 31: Practicing Formal and Informal English
Today, I worked on understanding the difference between formal and informal English and practiced using both styles depending on the situation. My goal was to adapt my speaking style based on who I’m talking to.
What did I do today?
Learning the Differences:
I studied common phrases and expressions used in formal English (e.g., “I would like to...,” “Could you please...”) and informal English (e.g., “I wanna...,” “Can you...?”).
I noted the situations where each style is appropriate, like formal for work or school and informal for friends or casual settings.
Role-Playing Conversations:
I practiced formal conversations, like writing an email or talking to a teacher: “Good morning, I hope this email finds you well.”
Then, I switched to informal conversations, like chatting with a friend: “Hey, how’s it going?”
Mixing Styles:
I practiced switching between formal and informal styles in role-play scenarios. For example, talking formally to a boss and then informally to a colleague in the same setting.
How did I feel today?
It was fun learning how to adapt my style, but I realized it’s easy to mix them up without noticing. With practice, I started feeling more confident about knowing when to use formal or informal language.
Achievements of the Day
Learned key phrases for formal and informal English.
Practiced switching between styles smoothly in conversations.
Plan for Tomorrow
Focus on improving writing skills, including formal emails and casual messages.
Practice more real-life scenarios where I can use both styles.
